Mount popa is an extinct volcano plug located 31 miles south-east of Bagan. Only the volcanic plug remains, and the top is the Popa Taung Kalat temple complex. It is the center of Myanmar’s unique nat or spirit-worshipping religion. There are 777 steps all the way to the top and the view from the top is spectacular. It is also known as the oasis of the central Myanmar dry zone because the trees on the mountain are always green as they cpature the moisture from the clouds. Nowadays, it is one of the must-see attractions around Bagan.
